Road to Recovery

Transportation is the number one non-medical issue for cancer patients. Many patients need daily or weekly treatments over a period of months and simply have no way to get there each day.

Road to Recovery is an American Cancer Society program designed to ensure that cancer patients have free transportation to and from medical facilities for treatments.  Volunteer drivers provide patients with a ride in order to keep them on their regular treatment schedule.  Road to Recovery is available on an “as needed” basis, after all other transportation options have been exhausted.

Volunteer Road drivers must possess a good driving record, car insurance and a serviceable vehicle. The American Cancer Society provides volunteer training and support through out the process. Volunteer drivers can choose days of the week, geographic areas as well as cancer treatment facilities they would like to drive.

The American Cancer Society needs the KAAR’s help to make sure patients in need of transportation are able to complete treatment.  For more information about Road to Recovery or to volunteer as a driver, please contact Jessica Neefe, Health Initiatives Representative, 865-558-4057 or by email at Jessica.Neefe@cancer.org.
